Continually improve and update your live set and record and release new material. The whole idea is for you to be prepared so they don't have to do any real work to get in touch with you or to go see you. So have a few shows lined up so that when they come to you there is something for them to plan ahead for. I've learned that if people go to your show and it's a good one then they'll be looking for the next and if there is no next then they'll generally lose interest.
On that note always book three shows in advance. People want to know your show schedule so they can go see it with their friends (assuming they like your music and show to begin with). People want to know you have an entire album and that they can buy it at your website. People want to see you have a real website. But that only happens if you have something for them when they come. The goal is to get them coming to you at your sites and at your shows. You can also have flyers, business cards, merchandise and perhaps even a few copies of your album with information that leads people to your website. Having a dedicated website (like a bandcamp site) goes a long way here because you can simply announce that your show schedule can be found at your website. If your songs are likable and you perform them in a way that people want to see then they will enjoy themselves and want to know where they can see you next and they will tell their friends about it. Once you have a live set ready to go then you should start doing local shows at venues that host your style of music and you can promote those shows via Facebook, myspace and your bandcamp website. But whatever you do plan and rehearse the show so that it's a fun experience for the people who might attend. If that means teaming up with live musicians and/or other acts to go on stage together then do that. Prepare a live performance of your work. Post your album and start your web presence there. Create a site on the internet for those songs to be heard and bought. Write and record a collection of songs. So if you're interested in getting a lot of people interested in that the first step is to have a product to push. You're essentially selling a product (copies of your album) and you're providing a half hour or more of live entertainment with your shows.

Think about what you would be doing as a professional musician. Then you can shoot videos pay to get your singles on the radio pay promo companies to get your stuff out pay for internet clicks as well and then lose most of that money when your actual record comes out money that you are going to make back after your rich uncle (who is also your manager and has lots of connections in the touring and music industry) starts your tour. Should I send my album to record companies after I finish it? In that case I would need to solicit it with a lawyer - but don't know exactly how to get the right lawyer. Online sites which claim to market your music are just like a game of lottery since many others would also be signed up for it. I do have a few close friends but then again, they're just my friends hence won't be really critical of my music and my music won't get very far. I can't really spam around on Youtube because they mark your post down as spam and possibly ban your account for doing it. So I'm planning to record my debut album over the next couple of months but the thing is I'm not sure how exactly I will promote it after I finish it.
